Position to which it reports
Plant Manager
The Tooling Leader is responsible for supporting new programs and production requests for die improvements, cavity replacement tooling builds, coordinate with manufacturing future tooling solutions, and management of day to day dimensional issues, as well as, carrying out and following through with validation of these changes.
Responsible to ensure the correct die is sent to production; ensure that all tooling is production ready; i.e. die inspection sheet completed.Maintains the Die database, ensuring that is kept up to date.Schedules tool maintenance and or repairs, to ensure an efficient department.Responsible for ensuring that the correct tool matches descriptions on the Shop Order, drawings and/or written specifications.Analyze tooling down time issues and work with process to solve problemsCoordinate the Press shop improvement and help facilitate team meetings and Continuous Improvement (CI) meetings, improvements could include, but not limited to; new materials, tooling practices, punches, coatings, equipment and processesEnsures all die tooling is built to GNS MTW standards in a timely manner, while meeting or exceeding ourcustomer quality expectations. Assist in the design and development of stamp tooling including but not limited to strip layouts, die construction and press specifications. Act as liaison for manufacturing plant, customer, and staff headquarters during the tooling development and build cycle.Ensuresproduction tool shop provides a realistic timeline Make purchase commitments for such tools.Responsible for die design review and follow up with designated tool shop to ensure tools meet required standards and timelines as defined by the program milestones.Supports Engineering team commitment to meet all objectives and measurable from tool design approval to tool buy-off.Track and report progress of tooling programs from sourcing to a production ready state.Ensures all proper information, check fixtures, and tryout material delivery and all other requirements are met.Manages all engineering changes through tool shops. Receive, catalog, copy, and distribute all engineering drawings for assigned programs. Coordinate information between tooling suppliers and internal business groups through the Engineering ManagerEnsures early part requirements from tool shops are met.

Technical degree preferred, or journeyman card with technical associates degree and 5 years automotive experienceFive years automotive industry experience, preferably in PHS "Hot stamping" or assembly industryFive years' experience or understanding of tool design and process and / or die and equipment constructionComputer proficiency in Microsoft Office: Microsoft Word, Excel, Mail Exchange
A good knowledge of stamping dies, part processing, stamped component assembly processes, and checking fixturesA dedication to teamwork and management by consensus and proactive in finding win-win solutions.Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneouslyUnderstanding of stamping dies, part processing, stamped component assembly processes, and checking fixturesResearch methods, techniques, and/or sources of information;Knowledge of principles, theories and practices of Project Management;Excellent tooling skills from planning regarding automotive product launchesExcellent knowledge regarding quality expectations, planning and implementation within new projectsFamiliar with allquality related methods and tools such as but not limited to CPMP, APQP, FMEA, etc.Excellent interpersonal communicate skills, oral and written.Leadership and organizational skills
